Emile Bosch 

■ I am a filmmaker, director of photography and photographer based in Johannesburg, South Africa. While I specialise in documentary work, I am also available for commercial, NGO, corporate and narrative projects.

■ CINEMATOGRAPHY

Through my career as a journalist I have developed an empathetic  style in my visual language, as well as a deep respect for storytelling.

about me 

■ my story

I am a documentary filmmaker, director of photography, photographer, and editor based in Johannesburg, South Africa. I believe that every story can be told artfully through composition, lensing, and light. Following a nearly ten-year, multiple award-winning career in visual journalism, I made the natural transition into telling the stories that need to be told through the medium of documentary.

Through my work exploring the many facets of what it means to be human, I have developed an empathetic storytelling process that respects my subjects and their inherent beauty, captured in angles and light.

My recent work as a DP or additional cinematographer has contributed to productions by Bloomberg Investigates, HBO, BBC, CNN, DW, M-Net, Showmax, kykNET, and kykNET & Kie.

As a DP, first AC, or camera operator, I have also played pivotal roles in commercial productions for brands such as Engen, Toyota, Clere, and Nescafé. A core tenet of my practice is that higher-level production ethos must be implemented in the documentary world.

My creative approach adds visual nuance through lensing and lighting, without detracting from the vérité nature of my filmmaking style.
